Apple TV's sci-fi catalog has seen renewed interest in Dark Matter, which has moved into the service’s Top 10 charts across multiple territories as anticipation builds for a second season. The eight-episode series debuted in 2024 as an adaptation of Blake Crouch’s novel and starred Joel Edgerton opposite Jennifer Connelly.

It offered a sleek, emotionally driven exploration of identity and fate and earned an 81% approval rating from both critics and audiences on Rotten Tomatoes. Although the first season covered the novel in full, Apple TV greenlit a second chapter with Crouch remaining as series creator.

Edgerton has said the new season will explore "chaos and the dangers of new technology" and confirmed the core characters will return. Production has begun, and while no official return date is set, he suggested the series could arrive "middle of the year." Dark Matter is available now on Apple TV; the series premiered May 7, 2024.
