Warhammer 40,000: Darktide is getting a new extraction-style mode that takes players out of the game's usual shadowy, industrial interiors and into a wide-open map. Roaming patrols of enemies will require a different approach to the close-quarters horde combat the game is known for, and radiation and pollution limit how long teams can stay outside.

Players can either reach the mission's end alive or choose to call it early; if time runs out and you die, you get nothing, making it a high-risk, high-reward proposition. The expeditions are described as "not truly procedurally generated" but "very randomized," so runs should feel quite unique each time.

The update, which also spawns extra enemies if fights drag on, aims to reward tactical play over mindless combat and arrives on March 17.
