Denzel Washington's Hannibal Movie to Film in Italy This Summer
Denzel Washington and director Antoine Fuqua will begin shooting their untitled Hannibal film for Netflix this summer in Italy. The pair reunite after Training Day and later collaborations including The Magnificent Seven and The Equalizer trilogy. John Logan wrote the screenplay; he has been nominated for Oscars for Hugo (adapted screenplay) and for Gladiator and The Aviator (original screenplay).
Cinematographer Robert Richard is attached and has won Academy Awards for his work on JFK, The Aviator and Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. The project was first announced in 2023, but negotiations were slowed by the 2023 writers' and actors' strikes and moved forward after those disputes were resolved.
The film’s logline describes a story based on the real-life warrior Hannibal, covering the pivotal battles he led against the Roman Republic during the Second Punic War.
