Devs is an eight-episode Hulu miniseries from Alex Garland that combines cyberpunk with deep philosophical and religious inquiry. The story begins in the encryption division of tech company Amaya, where Lily works alongside her boyfriend; Sergei is then recruited to Amaya's secretive quantum computing team, Devs.

After Sergei records code with his smartwatch, he is killed by Forest's henchman, setting off the events that follow. Rather than leaning on action, the show probes questions of fate, the present and the future, drawing on ideas such as the De Broglie–Bohm theory and the Socratic method.

Forest and his company's experiment rests on the belief that with sufficient data one can rewind and forward time; the machine can even rewind millennia to show the moment Jesus was crucified. The series can feel dense at times, but its philosophical ambition remains central.
