With a Friday deadline to fund the Department of Homeland Security approaching, Democrats and Republicans remained at an impasse and a shutdown looked possible. "If I had to say now, I probably would expect there is a shutdown," said Senator John Fetterman on Fox News’s "Sunday Morning Futures with Maria Bartiromo." Congress passed a stopgap spending bill last week, but if no deal clears both chambers the department will shut down on Saturday.

Democrats, responding to the killings of two American citizens in Minnesota last month by federal immigration officers, have pressed for new limits on enforcement operations. Their demands include barring officers from wearing masks, requiring visible identification and mandating judicial warrants when officers enter private property to make arrests.

"Dramatic changes are necessary to the manner in which the Department of Homeland Security officers are conducting themselves before any funding bill should move forward," House Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries said.
