The Department of Homeland Security said on Monday that Hilton had “maliciously canceled” reservations made by immigration agents at the Hampton Inn Lakeville Minneapolis, a suburb about 25 miles south of Minneapolis.

A post on the official Homeland Security X account called the action a “coordinated campaign,” and included a redacted email that it said showed the property would not host immigration agents. The post said agents had used government emails and tried to book special nightly rates and added, “This is unacceptable,” saying the hotel was helping to “undermine and impede D.H.S. law enforcement from their mission to enforce our nation’s immigration laws.”

The report noted that scores of Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents have been deployed in Minneapolis in recent weeks. It also said agents detained more than 600 people in Minnesota last month and that, in early December, President Trump had railed against Somali immigrants, calling them “garbage” and saying they should return to where they came from; Minnesota is home to a large Somali community.

Hilton said the Hampton Inn in Lakeville is independently owned and operated and that the actions described were not “reflective of Hilton values,” and the company said it is investigating. Everpeak Hospitality, which operates the Lakeville Hampton Inn, said it was in touch with the affected guests to ensure they are accommodated.
