Blizzard revealed a new expansion for Diablo 2 called Reign of the Warlock during the Diablo 30th anniversary Spotlight, and it is available today.

The update includes several quality-of-life improvements: stash tabs, item stacking to preserve inventory space, and dedicated stash tabs for materials, gems, and runes. Loot filters will let players customize which drops are highlighted, and a list of every item a player has ever collected — with information on where and when each was picked up — will finally be available in the game instead of only on third-party sites.

Reign of the Warlock is an unexpected larger update for a game that has seen mostly minor seasonal releases since Resurrected revitalized it in 2021, and the work on the expansion suggests Blizzard is willing to modernize some of the game's more archaic systems.

The expansion is out now on Battle.net, and many will be watching to see if more Diablo 2 news appears at this year's BlizzCon as the series marks its 30th anniversary.
