Blizzard gave away a gaming PC that used human plasma as liquid coolant to promote Diablo IV in 2023. A journalist investigated the unusual giveaway but could not uncover details about how much blood was used or whose blood it was.

He did track down the original winner, streamer Storms888, who says the machine continues to run two years on: 'I haven’t seen any drops in performance since the day I got it.' The streamer added that the rig 'did leak a ton though.'

Storms888 believes the coolant is a mixture of human blood and more conventional ingredients. Blizzard reportedly sent replacement vials and documentation confirming the red liquid came from human donors.

The streamer says the PC remains useful for livestreaming 'Battlefield 6 at ultra settings' and has not been upgraded. Blood-based promotional stunts have precedents, from Marvel mixing ink with KISS members' blood in 1977 to Lil Nas X drawing blood for custom Nikes in 2021.
