Diogo Dalot has warned his Manchester United team-mates that they must never take European football for granted after a campaign that left the club without Champions League action. The Portuguese full-back said the emptiness of a season with few fixtures should be a lasting lesson for the squad, noting United are on track to play their fewest matches since 1914-15.

Under interim manager Michael Carrick, United have turned their form around, with a 2-1 win over Crystal Palace moving them into third place — their highest league standing since 2023. Dalot stressed that securing a top-four finish should be the minimum aim from now on and warned that seasons without extended cup runs are “nowhere near what the club should be.” Dalot highlighted the importance of gritty victories, saying teams that stay at the top find ways to win even when they do not control a match for 90 minutes.
