Here's what Disney's new CEO Josh D'Amaro told employees on his first day
Josh D'Amaro sent employees a memo on his first day as Disney's CEO, saying he is "humbled and honored to help write the next chapter of this company." He took the baton on Wednesday from longtime leader Bob Iger. In the memo D'Amaro said "great storytelling and creative excellence" will remain the company's North Star.
He wrote that Disney will "embrace technology" to unlock new possibilities and "operate as One Disney," bringing together films, ESPN, music, streaming, parks, hotels, and cruises. D'Amaro previously ran Disney's Experiences division, overseeing parks and cruises, and joined the company in 1998.
He was chosen over Dana Walden, who was promoted to chief creative officer. The company also faces pressure from investors: its stock has been essentially flat over the last 10 years and, as a Bank of America analyst put it, was at its lowest relative valuation "in more than 40 years." He closed his message with a personal memory: "That feeling of flying I had on Peter Pan all those years ago is still real to me.
