Disney Names Josh D’Amaro as Next C.E.O.
Disney named Josh D’Amaro its next chief executive, ending a nearly three-year succession search. The board voted unanimously to give him the job; he will assume power on March 18 and join the company’s board. Robert A. Iger will remain as a senior adviser and board member until his contract expires on Dec.
31, when he will retire. Mr. D’Amaro, 54, is a 28-year Disney veteran who most recently served as chairman of Disney Experiences, a division that includes theme parks, cruise vacations and consumer products and has about $36 billion in annual revenue. That unit made up roughly 60 percent of Disney’s profit last year.
In the most recent quarter, the Experiences division reported $3.31 billion in operating profit, a 6 percent increase from a year earlier; the rest of the company, including movies, television and sports, reported $1.29 billion in operating profit, a 34 percent decline.
