Dispatch omits 'stay silent' dialogue option after under 1% picked it
Aaron Paul's performance as Dispatch's Robert "Mecha Man" Robertson III can be sarcastic and cynical, but also surprisingly compassionate; his story offers romance and chances for heroism. AdHoc chose not to include a way to derail conversations by deliberately staying silent — an option players could often take in the Telltale games the studio's co‑founders previously worked on.
At GDC 2026, creative directors Nick Herman and Dennis Lenart explained why they removed the traditional "..." option: nobody ever chose it. "We love to be able to play like an absolute weirdo, responding to every choice with a blank stare," Herman said, adding that silent options were triggered either intentionally or unintentionally less than 1% of the time across all users globally.
AdHoc did consider supporting the 'say nothing' playstyle, but Lenart pointed out the cost.
