Movieweb reports that Netflix's new behind-the-scenes documentary about Stranger Things Season 5 confirms the series finale was still being written when filming began. The documentary, which offers interviews with cast and crew during production, includes Key Set Production Assistant Montana Maniscalo saying: "Today's a very interesting day, we are shooting Episode 8, which isn't completely written yet – spoiler alert.

So we don't even fully know what's going on." Months before release it had been reported scripting was incomplete prior to shooting, and many fans who hoped for a ninth episode instead received this look at the making of the closing chapters. The season's release drew vocal backlash, including petitions alleging hours of footage were scrapped, claims that storylines were dropped after pressure from Netflix, and complaints over the final design of the Mind Flayer; the week following the final episode's release on New Year's Eve became "pretty chaotic." Matt Duffer later said on the Happy Sad Confused podcast: "I really shouldn't have done any of these postmortem interviews.

I am not in a good place. Like, why the hell did we do any of them yesterday is beyond me. I'm, like, fried. I was getting over the flu.
