Launched on Tuesday, DocuSign's new contract-specific AI in eSignature aims to explain documents you need to sign and help creators prepare forms.

For signers, the AI provides a simple summary of an agreement's key terms and can answer specific questions such as "What happens if I need to cancel the agreement?" or "When does this contract expire?"

For document creators, the AI attempts to identify different types of agreements, confirm recipient details, and place signature and information fields while assembling text, fields and formatting. "AI is transforming the way people work, but agreements demand an extra level of clarity and trust," Mangesh Bhandarkar, GVP of Product Management at Docusign, said in a news release.

The feature can save time, but the report cautions that AI can make mistakes. The outlet says "there are no easy answers" on full trust and recommends fact-checking steps: verify any sources referenced in the AI summary, ask challenging follow-up questions, run the document through other AIs for comparison, and independently research any confusing points.
