Costume designer Jean-Pierre Dorléac recounts difficult encounters with stars
Costume designer Jean-Pierre Dorléac named several stars he described as difficult, singling out Kirstie Alley, Shannen Doherty and Patrick Macnee. He called Alley "very crude and very brassy and coarse, irresponsible, never on time, a mess, a constant mess," and said she sweated because she drank while playing a travel agent on Masquerade.
Dorléac said a $350 pearl pink angora sweater dress he made for her was ruined when she allegedly dropped a chocolate donut down the front and the garment had to be thrown away; he added that she repeatedly gained weight and was rude. Alley died at age 71 in 2022.
On the TV movie A Burning Passion, Dorléac said he dressed Doherty in a blue suit that made her eyes look blue one day, brown the next and later a vivid green. When he asked how her eye color could change, he said she told him to "keep your f–king mouth shut" and accused the project of being awful, saying, "I hate this goddamn movie...
