Paramount’s 1999 thriller Double Jeopardy has returned to viewers’ attention, climbing to fourth place on Netflix’s global charts for most popular films. It appears alongside recent streaming hits such as War Machine, Joker: Folie à Deux and Despicable Me 4. Ashley Judd stars as Libby Parsons, a mother sent to prison after being convicted of killing her husband Nick, whose body was never found.

When Libby’s son blurts out “Daddy!” she realizes Nick is alive and that she was framed. A fellow inmate introduces her to the idea of double jeopardy, prompting Libby to hunt down Nick while parole officer Travis Lehman, played by Tommy Lee Jones, tries to stop her.

Bruce Greenwood and Annabeth Gish co-star. The film is often described as underrated and driven by Judd’s performance, with Jones and Greenwood also singled out for compelling turns. Critics at the time faulted its thin storyline and unresolved plot holes, a reception reflected in a 28% critics score on Rotten Tomatoes; the audience score is higher at 61%.
