Dozens of petrol stations across Australia run dry as panic-buying continues
Dozens of service stations across Australia have run out of petrol as distributors struggle to keep up with motorists panic-buying, after the conflict in the Middle East pushed prices higher. The NRMA warned regulators had “missed” the chance to stop price hikes, saying booming wholesale demand has pushed fuel prices to a “permanent high” on the east coast.
New South Wales reported 32 of 3,000 stations were out of at least one fuel type on Monday morning, leaving some single‑station towns short. Premier Chris Minns said the state had enough fuel but was having trouble distributing it because motorists were stockpiling: “It’s harder to restock those petrol stations if they’ve got more than expected out of the bowser on any given day.” Regional suppliers and farmers described wider disruption.
