Dragon Age: Veilguard Almost Included a Solas Debrief
In the final moments of Dragon Age: The Veilguard the player binds Solas, the elven trickster god, to the Veil by brute force, trickery, or redemption. Regardless of the method, the day is saved, Rook and Solas part ways as allies or enemies, and the game moves to a celebratory montage and credits.
What didn’t make it into the release was a final debrief that would have had characters press the player on why they made that choice. An earlier draft would have staged that conversation with Morrigan and the Inquisitor asking the player to explain their decision, even accounting for details like whether the Inquisitor had left for the Fade as Solas’s lover.
The team planned the exchange to reflect the nuances of each ending rather than reducing it to a single line of exposition. Writer Trick Weekes described this kind of scene as one of the ways to let players speak their character’s motivation out loud, rather than internalizing it.
