Dree Hemingway says she reached out to Daryl Hannah before critique
Dree Hemingway, who portrays Daryl Hannah in the Hulu series Love Story, said she attempted to contact Hannah before the actress published a scathing New York Times essay criticizing the show. Hemingway told Nylon she wrote Hannah a "love note" expressing admiration even before she was cast.
"I really just fell in love with her as a human being," she said, clarifying the message was not a request to meet: "It was really an honor of my lifetime to be able to portray you and research you." She added she didn't want to "intrude in any way" and was okay that Hannah never responded.
"I also think [she needs] her own time," she mused. "The show's just come out; I’m sure there’s a lot to digest there and stuff like that." Hemingway stressed the series is a dramatization: "We are not exactly portraying her or how something went down. There’s a fiction involved in all of this." She acknowledged the show isn't entirely accurate and said she's seen mixed reviews of her portrayal.
