Driver charged after crash that killed two of Anthony Joshua's friends
The driver of a vehicle involved in a crash that killed two passengers and injured boxer Anthony Joshua has been charged, Nigerian police said.
Police allege the driver was driving recklessly and without a valid national licence when the black SUV struck a stationary truck on a major road near Lagos on Monday.
Two of the passengers killed were Latif Ayodele, described as a trainer and like a "twin brother" to Joshua, and Sina Ghami, Joshua's strength and conditioning coach.
Hours before the accident, Joshua and Ayodele posted clips on social media showing them playing table tennis together.
The Ogun State Police Command said the driver, Adeniyi Mobolaji Kayode, has been charged on four counts: dangerous driving causing death, reckless and negligent driving, driving without due care and attention, and driving without a valid national driver's licence.
The 46-year-old appeared at the Sagamu Magistrate Court and the case was adjourned to 20 January for trial.
Local authorities confirmed Joshua, who is British-Nigerian, had been discharged from hospital and was recuperating at his home in Nigeria. Lagos state commissioner for information Gbenga Omotoso said the 36-year-old boxer and his mother "were at the funeral home in Lagos this afternoon to pay their final respects to his two departed friends."
