The driver of the SUV involved in a crash near Lagos that killed two passengers and injured boxer Anthony Joshua has been charged.

Adeniyi Mobolaji Kayode has been charged on four counts: dangerous driving causing death, reckless and negligent driving, driving without due care and attention, and driving without a valid national driver's licence.

Joshua, a two-time world champion, was travelling in the back of a black Lexus SUV when it struck a stationary truck on a major road on Monday, killing Latif Ayodele and Sina Ghami.

Ghami was Joshua's strength and conditioning coach, while Ayodele was a trainer described as being like a "twin brother" to the boxer.

The 46-year-old appeared at the Sagamu Magistrate Court and the case has been adjourned to 20 January for trial.

Local authorities confirmed Joshua, 36, had been discharged from hospital and was recuperating at his home in Nigeria.

Lagos state’s commissioner for information said Joshua and his mother had been at the funeral home in Lagos to pay their final respects.

Hours before the accident, Joshua and Ayodele posted clips on social media showing them playing table tennis together.
