A driver has been charged after a crash in south-west Nigeria that injured former heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua and killed two members of his team, police said. Adeniyi Mobolaji Kayode, 46, was charged at the Sagamu Magistrates' Court on Friday. Police sources said the charges included causing death by dangerous driving.

Prosecutors brought four charges against Mr Kayode: causing death by dangerous driving, reckless and negligent driving, driving without due care, and driving without a valid driver's licence. The defendant was granted bail of 5,000,000 Naira (£2,578) and was remanded pending meeting his bail conditions.

The case was adjourned until 20 January. The crash occurred on Monday when a Lexus SUV carrying Joshua and members of his team collided with a stationary truck on the Lagos-Ibadan expressway in Ogun state. Trainer Latif Ayodele and strength coach Sina Ghami were pronounced dead at the scene; Joshua was taken to hospital and discharged on Wednesday.

Ogun and Lagos state officials said the British boxer was "heavy hearted" over the deaths. After his discharge, Joshua visited the funeral home where the two men's bodies were being prepared for repatriation. Joshua, who has family roots in Sagamu and was travelling to visit relatives for New Year celebrations, had been in Nigeria after his recent victory over Jake Paul on 19 December.
