Dubai 12 days into the war
Twelve days after the US and Israel launched strikes on Iran, Dubai — long known as a safe haven — has felt the impact through drone strikes and falling debris. Authorities said a drone hit a building in Dubai Creek Harbour and that debris from an intercepted attack struck a facade on Sheikh Zayed Road.
Residents have received multiple missile alerts overnight. The UAE moved schools and universities to remote learning and brought spring break forward by a week, beginning on Monday; it is unclear if children will return to classrooms after the break ends on March 22.
The government initially urged private-sector employees to work remotely. While some people have returned to offices, several international companies extended remote working or evacuated their Dubai offices. Citigroup evacuated three buildings in the UAE, including in Dubai, and adopted a "fully remote model." Other major firms such as Goldman Sachs, JPMorgan, and Amazon told employees across the Middle East to work from home.
