Duffer brothers describe chaotic script process for Stranger Things final season
Independent.co reports that the Duffer brothers have described chaotic and stressful conditions while finishing Stranger Things season five in Martina Radwan’s Netflix documentary One Last Adventure: The Making of Stranger Things 5, which shows cast, crew and co-creators entering the final weeks without a completed script.
The film features Matt Duffer saying, “We were getting hammered constantly by production and by Netflix for episode eight,” and that “It was the most difficult writing circumstances we’ve ever found ourselves in.” In one clip he tells the team the ending is “all plotted out” while admitting, “I have to write it, and we’re just low on time.” A set production assistant, Montana Maniscalco, says: “We are shooting episode 8, which isn’t completely written yet — spoiler alert!
So we don’t even fully know what’s going on.” The documentary shows the midway point of production, Day 117, and the creators finalised the script the Wednesday prior to the final table read held Sunday, September 8, 2024. Stranger Things concluded after nearly 10 years with a two-plus-hour finale, “The Rightside Up,” on New Year’s Eve, and the documentary captures the final table read and cast reactions, with Finn Wolfhard saying, “We had a year of being on the edge of our seats.
