The first trailer for Dune: Part Three has finally arrived, promising an "epic conclusion" to Denis Villeneuve's science fiction trilogy. The very first shot, however, raises questions: Paul Atreides and Chani sit together, peacefully discussing what to name their child — a surprising image after Dune: Part Two ended with Paul marrying Princess Irulan for political reasons instead of his true love.

That ending differed from the book. In Frank Herbert's novel, Chani essentially accepts a subordinate role after talking it over with Jessica, but Villeneuve gave her a firmer, less submissive exit in the film: Chani leaves Paul and rides off alone on a sandworm.

The director said the change "is much more romantic," and argued it also made the story more contemporary. "It's much more emotional," Villeneuve said. "We can relate to that. He has to do a political move, and it's a feudal world, so in order to get power he will take Irulan's hand, but the way he expresses it in the film is much more romantic.
