Collider reports that HBO's A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, which premiered on January 18, 2026, adapts George R.R. Martin's Dunk and Egg novellas and is set in 211 AC.

The series follows Ser Duncan the Tall (Peter Claffey), a hedge knight who travels to Ashford to enter the journey lists, and Egg (Dexter Sol Ansell), the young squire who is actually Prince Aegon V. The story lands after the Dance of the Dragons — when dragons had died out — and shows a Targaryen line descended through Viserys II that still produces many male heirs.

The tales detail how Dunk and Egg's friendship influenced the Iron Throne: Egg becomes King Aegon V (Aegon the Unlucky) and is later grandfather to the Mad King Aerys and great-grandfather to Daenerys, while Dunk joins Aegon's Kingsguard, rises to Lord Commander and is recorded in the Kingsguard's White Book. Show credits listed include showrunner Ira Parker, director Owen Harris and writers George R. R. Martin and Ira Parker.
