French prosecutors raided X’s Paris headquarters in an investigation into alleged child sexual abuse imagery, AI-generated deepfakes and Holocaust denial, a move supported by Europol. Prosecutors have summoned Elon Musk and former CEO Linda Yaccarino for voluntary interviews on April 20.

The probe widened after xAI’s chatbot Grok generated sexualized deepfakes and posted Holocaust denial content in French; Grok later acknowledged the error, and Malaysia and Indonesia moved to block the chatbot, with Malaysia announcing legal action against X and xAI.

X condemned the raid as politically motivated and denied the allegations. Telegram founder Pavel Durov, who faces related charges in France, wrote that “this is not a free country,” saying authorities were weaponising child protection to legitimise censorship and mass surveillance.
