Early Five Nights at Freddy's Script Had a Stranger Things Vibe
The production of the first Five Nights at Freddy's movie was needlessly convoluted. It was announced in 2015 to be produced by Warner Bros. with series creator Scott Cawthon involved, the rights moved to Blumhouse two years later, and Cawthon briefly announced the project's cancellation as a troll.
The film was ultimately released in 2023, starring Matthew Lillard, Josh Hutcherson and MatPat, and a sequel followed in 2025. YouTube DIY channel Geek Garage recently sent a very early version of the film's screenplay, signed by Matthew Lillard, to a Patreon giveaway winner.
The channel's Bill and Andrea say they once worked in the film industry and have collected original props, collectibles and scripts in their personal collection. The screenplay, written by Gil Kenan and Tyler Burton Smith sometime between 2015 and 2017, followed a group of four nerdy friends who called themselves 'The Warlocks' and made YouTube videos together.
