eBay has agreed to buy the London-based secondhand fashion resale app Depop from Etsy for about $1.2bn in cash, as it seeks to attract younger, fashion‑loving consumers. The sale represents a $400m loss for Etsy, which bought Depop for $1.6bn less than five years ago.

Depop is expected to keep its name, brand, platform and culture. By the end of last year it had 7 million active buyers—almost 90% under 34—and more than 3 million active sellers, with annual gross merchandise sales of about $1bn in 2025 and almost 60% year-on-year growth in the US.

eBay said the acquisition will deepen its reach with younger fashion‑forward consumers and expand its presence in resale.
