ZDNET reviewed Elevation Lab's Vault Strap Compact, a low-profile AirTag holder designed to attach securely to fabric and webbing on travel bags and similar gear.

The holder is constructed from a fiber-reinforced polymer shell that ZDNET says is water- and dust-resistant and built to withstand impact. It has a matte black finish to make the AirTag harder to spot, and the kit includes security fasteners, a fitting tool and a template for screw holes; the screws feature security Torx heads, are pointed to pierce tough materials, and have broad flat heads that resist ripping.

The reviewer said the holder solved a visibility problem experienced while traveling with a Pacsafe bag in Spain, where a previous Elevation Lab Secure AirTag Wire Cable holder left the white AirTag exposed and dangling. Hiding the tag, ZDNET noted, makes it less of a target for removal or deliberate damage, and the outlet advised not to overtighten the screws to avoid damaging them or complicating future battery changes.

ZDNET's buying advice calls the Vault Strap Compact a good option for rucksacks, camera bags and gadget bags, saying it is better than placing an AirTag inside a bag or using a dangling holder. The holders are sold as singles, twin-packs and four-packs priced at $14.99, $24.99 and $34.99 respectively, with the single listed at $14.99 at Amazon, and ZDNET concludes the upgrade makes a bag harder to steal or lose.
