Newly released emails show Jeffrey Epstein repeatedly sent luxury gifts to Kathryn Ruemmler, who is now Goldman Sachs' chief legal officer, and that Ruemmler at times thanked him as "Uncle Jeffrey." In one 2018 note, she wrote, "So lovely and thoughtful! Thank you to Uncle Jeffrey!!!" after Epstein had something delivered to her New York apartment.

The trove of messages includes a 2016 note from Epstein assistant Lesley Groff relaying Ruemmler’s reaction to an Hermès handbag: "OH MY GOD!!! He is in so much =rouble!!!! I am dying. It is so beautiful." A receipt for the bag, a Jlypslere 31, showed it cost $9,350. Other emails show Ruemmler thanked Epstein for a handbag he sent for her 44th birthday in 2015 — she said she "absolutely love[d] the handbag" — and in 2019 wrote, "Am totally tricked out by Uncle Jeffrey today!

Jeffrey boots, handbag, and w=tch!" In 2018 she also asked whether it was OK to request a higher-end Hermès-branded Apple Watch: "If truly okay with him to do the Hermes, I would love the 40 mm, stainless Hermes with bleu indigo swift leather double tour." At the time of the emails, Ruemmler was a top attorney at Latham & Watkins.

Epstein, who pleaded guilty in 2008 to soliciting prostitution from a minor and later rebuilt ties to prominent figures, was indicted on federal sex‑trafficking charges in 2019 and died in jail while awaiting trial. Ruemmler served as White House counsel from 2011 to 2014 and joined Goldman Sachs in 2020.
