Emery urges Liverpool to remove Elliott purchase clause
Aston Villa manager Unai Emery has urged Liverpool to change the terms of Harvey Elliott's loan, saying a clause that forces a £30 million permanent transfer if he reaches 10 appearances has left the midfielder in limbo. Elliott has made seven appearances this season and Emery admits the clause has made him reluctant to use the 22-year-old.
Emery said he has spoken with Elliott and is 'opening the door to play with us', stressing the situation blends sport and business. He added that, from a sporting point of view, Elliott deserves time on the pitch, but Liverpool "have the key" if they keep the clause and should remove it to be fair to the player.
Elliott has featured only twice since the turn of the year; injuries to Boubacar Kamara, Youri Tielemans and John McGinn saw him recalled and he has since played against Brentford and Red Bull Salzburg.
