Emma Stone Shines in SNL Digital Short 'The Actress'
Emma Stone is the youngest member of Saturday Night Live's Five Timers Club and has earned five Academy Award nominations. The Bugonia star's range is on full display in Season 44's "The Actress," a compact 2019 digital short that highlights both her dramatic instincts and comic timing.
The short was directed by Oz Rodriguez and written by Julio Torres alongside then-new SNL writer Bowen Yang. Stone plays the titular actress, driving to what she believes is her big break: "I've been trying to make it as an actress for years, but I was sick of doing commercials.
Of playing one dimensional women with vacant lives," she says in a voiceover. Moments later it becomes clear the role is a tiny, arguably pivotal part in an adult film. On set, Beck Bennett's director barely looks up from his phone and tells her to choose from "the 'woman' bin." Stone pieces together a life for the character from small props — "Two pairs of loose sweat pants.
