Epic Games warns Fortnite players about V-bucks bot scam
Fortnite players have reported losing large amounts of V-bucks after Epic allowed creative island creators to offer in-game transactions. Much of the controversy centers on one map, Steal the Brainrot, which drew criticism in January over a prize wheel and loot boxes; Epic updated creator rules but new complaints have since appeared.
Over the last several days multiple users said V-bucks were spent on that island even though they never played it. Three Reddit users claimed losses between 12,000 and 28,000 V-bucks each, all spent on Steal the Brainrot. Epic says the likely culprit is unauthorized third-party bots that manipulate accounts they can access — as CEO Tim Sweeney put it, "It’s Discord bots going bad." A post on the Fortnite Status X account warned that bots on Discord or Telegram can automatically buy items, join lobbies, or perform other actions if given access, and that such bots are not made by Epic and can spend V-bucks outside a player’s control.
