Episode 5 explained: the Blackfyre Rebellion
Episode 5 of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms gives the series its first full look at the Blackfyre Rebellion. The installment opens with a young Dunk in Flea Bottom looting a dead knight, only to have a merchant refuse the leather: "Daemon's rebellion is over," he snaps.
"Keep your blackfyre leather." The Blackfyre Rebellion, which took place in 196 AC (13 years before the events of the show), was a brutal civil war between the loyalist forces of King Daeron II Targaryen and the rebels led by his half-brother Daemon I Blackfyre.
Daemon, the "bastard son" of King Aegon IV Targaryen, pressed his claim on the Iron Throne; Daeron sent the Kingsguard after him, Daemon escaped, and the conflict tore the Seven Kingdoms apart. The war ended at the Battle of the Redgrass Field, where Daemon was killed by Bryndon Rivers, later known as Lord Bloodraven.
