Eric Bieniemy to return as Chiefs offensive coordinator
Cbssports reports the Kansas City Chiefs have agreed to terms with Eric Bieniemy to return as the team's offensive coordinator as they seek to rebound in 2026 following the franchise's first losing season of the Andy Reid–Patrick Mahomes era. Bieniemy, 56, spent the 2025 season as the Chicago Bears' running backs coach and will replace Matt Nagy, whose contract is set to expire and who has been interviewing for other jobs around the league.
Bieniemy previously served as the Chiefs' offensive coordinator from 2018-22, helping the team win two Super Bowls and overseeing one of the NFL's most potent offenses led by Mahomes and tight end Travis Kelce; Kansas City continued to produce offensively even after trading Tyreek Hill following the 2021 season.
After not receiving serious consideration for head-coaching openings, Bieniemy moved to the Washington Commanders in 2023 to call plays and lasted one year as the team went 4-13, then had brief roles at UCLA and with the Bears. In Chicago this season the Bears finished third in the NFL in rushing yards and third in yards per carry, as running backs D'Andre Swift and rookie Kyle Monangai ran for 1,087 and 783 yards respectively and combined for 14 touchdowns.
