Pagesix reported that Eric Dane canceled his appearance at the ALS Network's Champions for Cures and Care Gala on Saturday just hours before the event, citing complications with his disease. Dane had been scheduled to receive the Advocate of the Year award; the ALS Network told People he canceled "due to the physical realities of ALS" and because he was not "well enough to attend." The organization said it was "deeply grateful for his courage, advocacy and continued commitment to the ALS community" and would "honor him fully this evening with our profound respect and support." Reps for Dane and the ALS Network did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

Dane revealed his ALS diagnosis in April 2025 and was spotted in a wheelchair at an airport in Washington, DC, in September; footage obtained by the Daily Mail captured him speaking in a stilted voice. Earlier that month he appeared in a campaign video for I AM ALS in which he spoke slowly, occasionally slurred words and his arms appeared to twitch.

He was to receive the Advocate of the Year award in person, and the organization proceeded to honor him that evening.
