Eric Dane's The Last Ship to Leave HBO Max on April 11
Eric Dane, who died in February at 53 after a battle with ALS, left a final message that aired on Netflix's Famous Last Words the day after his passing. He rose to prominence on Grey's Anatomy and had recent roles on Euphoria and in the film Bad Boys: Ride or Die, which grossed over $400 million worldwide.
Dane had earlier headlined The Last Ship, a five-season series executive-produced by Michael Bay that ran from 2014 to 2018. The show was created by Hank Steinberg and Steven Kane and is based on William Brinkley's novel; it first aired on TNT. Set after a pandemic that wiped out 80% of the world's population, the series follows the crew of a U.S.
Navy ship that remained unaffected by the virus. Dane's character rose through the ranks to become an admiral; the cast also included Rhona Mitra, Adam Baldwin, Charles Parnell and Hiroyuki Sanada, with Jack Bender directing several episodes and Jonathan Mostow directing the pilot.
