Eric Schmnidt data center firm negotiating Texas deal with Google
Bolt Data and Energy, cofounded late last year by former Google CEO Eric Schmnidt, is negotiating with Google to anchor a large data-center campus in West Texas. Two people with direct knowledge of the talks said Google is considering a 250-megawatt commitment, while another person said it was too early to characterize the potential transaction's exact size.
The talks are confidential and the people spoke on condition of anonymity. A Google spokeswoman said, "We don't comment on rumors." Google announced last year plans to build $40 billion of cloud and AI infrastructure in Texas by 2027. In December, Bolt completed a $150 million first funding round that included a $50 million investment from Texas Pacific Land Corporation, a public company that owns large tracts of land in West Texas.
As part of that investment, Bolt will develop data centers on TPL's land, which a company presentation said provides access to abundant power and water for cooling — two commodities strained by the boom in data-center development.
