Investigating the bombing of a goblin tea shop quickly turned into a string of absurd detours: eating until sick, convincing a zombie to beat himself to (re)death and then robbing him, campaigning as a self-styled “Wizard-God”, failing to flirt with an angel, befriending a booze-guzzling sphinx, accidentally uncovering a conspiracy, and even suffering a reality-bending out-of-body moment after climbing a ladder.

Five days of play barely scratched the surface. Esoteric Ebb invites you to build radically different versions of its protagonist—the chaotic, messy Cleric I played, a straight-laced jobsworth, a revolutionary, a zen druid, a power-hungry mage or something closer to Judge Dredd.

Its tabletop-inspired systems map chatty skills onto traditional RPG attributes, giving each skill more screen time, distinct goals and opinions, and the ability to argue, surprise or ally with other inner voices.
