Ethereum Foundation Outlines Main Priorities for 2026 — Cointelegraph.com News

The Ethereum Foundation has named faster transactions, smarter wallets, improved cross-chain interoperability and quantum-resistant security as its protocol priorities for 2026. It plans to continue scaling the gas limit — the maximum amount of computational work a block can handle — toward and beyond 100 million, a topic that drew heavy community discussion in 2025.

Some members expect the gas limit to rise significantly; educator Anthony Sassano said in November that a move to 180 million in 2026 should be seen as a baseline. The Glamsterdam network upgrade, slated for the first half of 2026, is listed as a major priority.

Post-quantum readiness is also central to the foundation's trillion-dollar security initiative, and researcher Justin Drake posted on X that the foundation has formed a new Post-Quantum (PQ) team and called the development an inflection in its long-term quantum strategy.
