Beincrypto reports Ethereum held above $3,000 even as institutional investors withdrew $116 million in the week ending January 9.

ETH has been range-bound inside a tightening triangle formed in mid‑November and has failed to sustain multiple breakout attempts. Institutional selling coincided with the failed breakout and reduced the follow-through that often accompanies technical breaks. On‑chain data showed the exchange net position change printed a green bar — the first in over six months — signaling rising inflows to exchanges and potential selling pressure.

At the time of writing ETH traded near $3,134, hovering around $3,131; downside risks could push the price toward $3,000 and then $2,902 if those levels break. A bullish alternative would require flipping $3,131 into firm support to target $3,287, with a more realistic upside noted at $3,441 and a larger pattern projection toward $4,200.
