EufyCam S3 Pro review: brilliant night vision, pricey bundle

The EufyCam S3 Pro is a 4K outdoor camera whose MaxColor Vision AI delivers daytime-like color and surprising detail at night. Hardware — an f/1.0 aperture, a 1/1.8" sensor and twin spotlights — helps the camera capture clearer low-light footage than many older models.

Using Apple HomeKit reduces the feed to 1080p and stores footage in iCloud, which requires an iCloud plan costing $1 to $10 per month; HomeKit Secure Video supports end-to-end encryption. Alternatively, connecting the camera to Eufy's HomeBase 3 and an external HDD keeps video local and avoids monthly cloud fees.

Eufy upgraded the solar capability to SolarPlus 2.0 with a 13,000mAh battery and claims up to 365 days of battery life if the unit receives about one hour of direct sunlight daily. Installations that get at least an hour of sunlight year-round work best; charging will initiate at roughly 2,500 lx, and cameras without adequate sun exposure will need periodic charging at home.
