Kong, Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire and the series Monarch: Legacy of Monsters helped revive the franchise after earlier setbacks. Hank Marlow is one example: John C. Reilly plays the stranded U.S. Army Air Forces lieutenant who crashed on Skull Island in 1944 and survived there for 29 years, while Will Brittain appears as the younger Marlow in the film’s prologue and as Marlow’s son in the closing scene.

Houston Brooks also appears at different ages — Corey Hawkins plays the young Monarch scientist in Kong: Skull Island, and Joe Morton portrays him later at Monarch Outpost 61, where he witnesses Mothra’s emergence in Godzilla: King of the Monsters.
