Every Season of The Sopranos, Ranked From Good to Great
The Sopranos is widely regarded as one of television’s greatest dramas. It was a major hit during its 1999–2007 run and helped define HBO’s identity; its final season ran for 21 episodes and is commonly considered in two parts, 6A and 6B, which are ranked separately here.
At the lower end of this list is Season 6A, a 12-episode stretch that opens with a shocking event putting Tony Soprano in danger and follows with surreal coma dreams before settling into episodes that sometimes feel less focused than the series’ best work. Season 1 also ranks near the bottom, though it remains a powerful foundation: it introduces Tony’s family life, his therapy, and the power struggle with Uncle Junior after Jackie Aprile’s death, with a tone that leans more toward dark comedy than later seasons.
The middle of the list contains several slow-burn and consistently strong seasons.
