Ex-Square Enix exec says Roblox and gen-AI will outpace AAA single-player games
Jacob Navok, former director of business at Square Enix and now CEO of Genvid, argues the future of video game development lies in game-creating platforms like Roblox. Leading a studio-grade AI production platform, he has repeatedly painted a picture of a total merging of game development and generative AI.
Navok points to Square Enix’s defunct Core Online as an early attempt that never took off, and says modern platforms offer prompt-based instant experiences, AI algorithms that provide suggestions, and creators who can quickly enable large-scale shared play. He also cites AI-rendered textures and meshes, animation libraries on demand, Lua for repeatability and consistency, plus Roblox’s scaled matchmaking as forming a strong moat.
