Explosions in Dubai, Bahrain, Jordan and Kuwait as war spreads
Iran struck the Fairmont hotel in Dubai’s Palm Jumeirah, setting the hotel alight; social media videos showed fires near the entrance and four people were injured. Dubai authorities later said debris from an intercepted drone caused a fire at the Burj Al Arab; Civil Defence teams brought that incident under control and no injuries were reported.
The Dubai media office also said part of the city’s international airport sustained minor damage in an incident. Within hours of the first US and Israeli bombs, Iran responded with a wide-ranging attack targeting more than six countries. In Bahrain, an Iranian drone flew into a high-rise building, exploding and engulfing it in flames, and the country’s national security agency was also struck by a missile.
Social media footage appeared to show a missile hitting the US naval base in Bahrain. In Kuwait, a drone crashed into the main airport, wounding several employees and damaging the facility. In Jordan, fires blazed in Irbid as missile shrapnel fell.
