Faces of Death Remake Posters Deemed Too Disturbing for Theaters
The new Faces of Death adaptation has met resistance from theaters that are declining to display its posters in lobbies, citing concerns about children passing by. Filmed in 2023 and scheduled for release on April 10, 2026, the film received an R rating from the MPA for "strong bloody violence and gore, sexual content, nudity, language, and drug use." Directed by Daniel Goldhaber, it stars Barbie Ferreira, Darcy Montgomery, Josie Totah, Charli XCX, and Jermaine Fowler.
An uncensored teaser was removed from YouTube for violating violence policies, and a red-band version was later released. Goldhaber shared the new ads on Instagram, writing "they keep banning our movies LOL," while the campaign leans on an "is it real?" angle and a "we dare you" challenge next to the release date.
The marketing echoes the controversy surrounding the original 1985 Faces of Death, which promoted itself as real and claimed—incorrectly—that it had been banned in 46 countries.
