Tom Hardy spent much of his career in films, often taking on multiple feature projects each year before 2023. His television appearances were mostly one-offs early on—in shows like Band of Brothers, Colditz and The Virgin Queen—until 2014, when he joined Steven Knight’s Peaky Blinders as Alfie Solomons.

Introduced in the second season, Alfie became a fan favorite as he alternately aided and opposed Tommy Shelby over several seasons. That recurring role strengthened Hardy’s collaboration with Knight, and the pair, along with Hardy’s father Chips, created the period drama Taboo.

Taboo spans eight episodes set in 1814 and follows James Delaney, who returns to England after 12 years in Africa and confronts corrupt forces such as the East India Company. The BBC series blended drama and action, drew awards attention during its run, and is now enjoying renewed global interest on the Apple TV Store, according to FlixPatrol; it is also streaming on Prime Video in the U.S.
