Fantasy Island originally ran on ABC from 1977 to 1984, with Ricardo Montalbán as the enigmatic Mr. Roarke and Tattoo (Hervé Villechaize) announcing arrivals with the familiar cry, "De plane! De plane!" The series was emblematic of its era—original and, in several ways, problematic—and has been revisited several times, including a 1998 revival and a 2020 horror film.

Fox aired a sequel in 2021 that picks up decades later. Roselyn Sánchez plays Elena Roarke, Mr. Roarke’s grand-niece who now runs the island; Kiara Barnes appears as Ruby Akuda, who arrives seeking more time before a fatal illness, becomes young again, and stays to assist Elena.

John Gabriel Rodriquez plays Javier, Elena’s romantic interest. The new series favors standalone stories that let the island grant wishes in dreamy but often unexpected ways, while also carrying season-long threads about Elena’s family and role.
